Resumo

This article examines the concept of methodology in archaeology, arguing that it transcends the mere application of techniques and constitutes a direct reflection of the discipline's philosophical assumptions. The analysis distinguishes between two essential levels: an ontological foundation and epistemological considerations. This paper treats methodology not as an impartial set of procedures, but as the practical articulation of theory. It functions as the link connecting the material record to intellectual constructs, implying that how archaeology is done is inextricably linked to how the past is conceived.
