Resumo

Spirituality has emerged as a relevant dimension in health, influencing how individuals understand illness, cope with suffering, and adhere to treatment. The aim of this article is to discuss the relevance of spirituality in person-centered care, presenting conceptual foundations, clinical implications, and its contribution to Primary Health Care. This is a narrative literature review based on searches in databases such as PubMed, SciELO, and Google Scholar, encompassing publications from the last two decades on spirituality, person-centered care, and primary care. The findings show that spirituality is associated with greater well-being, resilience, adaptation to illness, and strengthening of the therapeutic bond. However, many professionals still demonstrate insecurity in addressing this dimension, either due to a lack of academic training or difficulty distinguishing spirituality from religiosity. Brief instruments such as FICA, HOPE, and SPIRIT assist in integrating this approach into the clinical process. It is concluded that the incorporation of spirituality strengthens humanized practices, broadens the biopsychosocial perspective, and contributes to therapeutic plans that are more sensitive to the individual's needs.
